Remember the Greek myth about the great King Midas?
“Mythological possessor of the “Midas touch”, [he was] given the power to transmute whatever he touched into gold.” according to the linked site here. The encyclopedia goes on to say that “Midas was a king of Phrygia, a region nowadays part of Turkey.”
Midas did a good deed for the god Dionysus, who offered to grant whatever Midas should wish for. So, Midas asked that everything he touched be turned to gold. Midas went home to his palace to try out his new gift.
It worked! He ran around touching stuff, thinking he was getting richer and richer. Which he was. But then he found out what a mixed blessing this gift was. He took his little daughter by the hand to lead her into the garden to see all the golden objects.
“Encountering unexpected resistance, he swung about to see why his daughter was being such a slug. Whereupon his eyes encountered, where late his child had been, a life-size golden statue that might have been entitled “Innocence Surprised,” according to this entry.
Soon, “Midas came to understand why Dionysus had looked askance when asked to grant the favor. Fortunately, the god was a good sport about it. He allowed Midas to wash away his magic touch in the river Pactolus, which ever after enjoyed renown for its shimmering deposits of gold.” The End.
Now, look at U.S. Government control of United States lands and natural resources. Recall that King Midas’ touch ruined food and life, as well as turning inanimate objects into gold. Now recall that federal government agencies, ruled by US courts, is doing the same thing.
Turning valleys back into deserts. Making farming and ranching and mining and logging and fishing more and more difficult or even impossible. Trust fund babies and government workers in the big U.S. cities are doing fine.
On the federal land map below, note Texas! Yee Haw! The U.S. govt was supposed to sell the land it had claimed to local settlers. But at some point, federal bureaucrats changed their minds. And since hardly anyone lived out there at the time, nobody complained.
And the media and elected officials wonder why they are encountering so much “anger????” Here are a couple of maps to show some of the problem:
To end on a light-hearted note:
