We had wondered whether our favorite Ukrainian politician had been forgotten since the evil Yanukovich regime had imprisoned her.
Yulia Tymoshenko, former prime minister, has been in prison since 2011.
People made fun of her for wearing that long blond braid, but it actually symbolizes a traditional hair-do popular in Ukraine. Here’s how the WSJ described recent astonishing developments in the current crisis:
In another dramatic development, parliament overwhelmingly passed a law that would allow former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to be released from prison. Ms. Tymoshenko, an opposition figurehead and major rival of the president, was jailed in 2011 for abuse of office after a trial widely criticized in the West as rigged.
IFO does not consider her a “figurehead.” She is a powerful representative of true native Ukrainian patriots and the political party that she heads. The same WSJ article went on to say:
About an hour after the deal was signed, 386 lawmakers in the 450-seat parliament voted to roll back constitutional changes that had given the president more power. They then broke into the national anthem, which starts: “Ukraine has not yet perished.”
And, yes, that is Vladimir Klitschko in the ring in the Youtube video below! Don’t neglect to read the comments below these videos.
Here it is by a chorus with English lyrics:
