The universe rewarded us big time today as we spent the mid-point of the Labor Day weekend getting our studio/office in order.
It was the last room to tackle in the endless task of unpacking, sorting and filing away. This is where all the spare papers ended up as we did the rest of our little home.
After putting our pinups and cartoons on the wall (see our current favorites, above), we started in on a random pile of paper. Here’s an envelope, let’s check it before we toss it. What’s this?!?!! Yep, several large bills.
The memory came back in a flash. Our ill-fated trip to Switzerland this spring included an attempt to open a Swiss bank account in the local cantonal bank. They refused to do it. US Treasury has too many rules. Too hard for us little banks to follow. So, no. No American bank accounts. We’ll turn your cash into Swiss francs for you, though.
The bank’s automatic currency counter spit out five of the bills. Too dirty and wrinkled. That machine was so Swiss! We had to laugh – kind of how Pagliacci laughed when he was getting into his clown makeup, “Vesti la giubba…” etc. Bitter, desperate and heart-broken.
Now, though, we laughed with surprise and happiness. How our perceptions change, eh?
The next financial win came as we dutifully balanced our bank accounts. We struggled to find out why the bank thought we had more money than our Quicken software did. After a half-hour search and compare mission, we discovered a duplicate check entry. Bingo! More cash!!! Yay!
So, you see, it pays to keep one’s finances and office in order.
