It has been a while since my last post, but never fear. I’ve been really busy. Finally moved into my apartment here in Zofingen. After leaving the opera tour, I spent a few days in Florence, visiting friends, getting my hair cut and colored (by Mario himself!), and getting a new suit.
Next, back to CH in Basel to see Bait Jaffe, a wonderful SECOND SWISS KLEZMER group! They have a new CD, but I haven’t bought it yet. Got lost on the way back to the hotel, but was still there before 11 pm, when the doors are locked. I think the hotel is a special place, not a regular hotel. It’s near the University and the hospital, so it could be for their residents’ relatives, etc.
On Nov. 1, my dear friends, the Siggs, drove me for the last time to Zofingen to sign my two-month lease and receive keys to the apartment. It’s lovely, but was COMPLETELY empty. In my haste to nail down a place, I neglected to inquire about furnishings.
Not too worry though, I went to the “Brocki,” the Brockenhaus, a home for unwanted, used furniture and household goods. For a great price, I got two tables, three chairs, two lamps and a gorgeous rug. That was yesterday. They even delivered it that night, but the driver couldn’t find my place.
He called me and I was able to give him directions, because I’d been out last night looking for food and had noticed the name of the street that my street runs into. So you see, I’m well-hidden here. In a stealth country (rarely mentioned in the Intl Herald Tribune, except for news about UBS), in a stealth canton (almost no one has heard of Aargau), in a stealth town that even the Siggs didn’t know about even though it has a population of about 12,000.
And now I find that even locals don’t know where my street is.
I have lots of pix on my camera, but fear I am running out of CH Internet connection time. I also have some great stories for you. I’ll post again tomorrow. It is supposed to rain.
