After a harrowing and fascinating few days, I’m settled in my Prague apartment. Well, it’s a room with shower and toilet and washing machines out in the hall. Still, it’s home for the next month.
There was no electricity for the first two days, but that is fixed. Amazing how resourceful one can be in straitened circumstances. For light, I bought a cigarette lighter, hoping it would do. Then, went through the pedestrian underpass to a hotel, had dinner, used their computer to catch up on emails, and asked the hostess if I could buy the dinner candle.
She was the first English or German speaker I had run into for hours! Truely, Czech is practically the only language spoken out here in the ‘real’ Prague. The best place to be if you want to learn to speak the language.
Came home and had a nice candlelight conversation with my house mate, Andrew.
Time is running out this morning, so I’m just going to try to put up some pix from my little camera. More tomorrow.
