Are cities disappearing?

Seriously, are cities disappearing? And if so, why? Or is this phenomenon that we just noticed simply the latest Chamber of Commerce and local newspaper fad or marketing ploy? Is it confined to Oregon, or is it nationwide.

We had this thought when we got our latest C of C newsletters: one is the Ch*** Valley Chamber of Commerce and the other one is the next largest town down the highway, the Y***ll Valley Chamber of Commerce. Both Chambers used to have their town in place of the *** Valley name.

Both related newspapers have kept their names, but have a subhed of Ch*** Valley News and Y***ll Valley News.

We assume the reason for the changes is to snag rural residents, many of whom now have home businesses, and business people from the small satellite towns, as members.

So, does anyone know the answers to these questions?
