MPI and other financial reports

Novartis’ dividend of Sfr 2.25 is now worth USD 2.46, so things have stabilized on the currency front. It was kinda creepy when the dollar was dropping like a stone. Commodities have also stabilized… somewhat.

Just a word to the wise here – don’t listen to those advertisements trying to convince you to buy gold. Do your own research and make up your own mind. Check past posts on IFO if you don’t want to find the charts. Gold has NOT skyrocketed the way the ads say it has. Today, for example, gold closed at $1660/oz. Same for silver, closing today at $32.56/oz. Even crude oil, at $107.15/bbl is fairly close to where it was last week.

A good rule of thumb: if a commodity, or a stock index, for that matter, makes headlines at the top of the fold in your local newspaper daily, don’t buy or sell. Wait until things settle down. You might lose a little, or win a little, but you won’t get whip-sawed.

And now, ta-da! Without further ado: The MPI – Model Portfolio Index! Remember that the numbers recorded for the Total are the daily results, while the Cumulative records results since we began to “invest.”
