This headline gives us the creeps: J&J Scraps Antipsychotic Study.
Executive summary, courtesy WSJ: J&J has scrapped plans for a clinical trial comparing its injectable antipsychotic Invega Sustenna with various oral treatments, citing a “reconsideration of priorities.”
J&J actually already has the injectable drug and FDA approval for it. It seems the withdrawn study was just a sort of followup.
However, here’s the last sentence in this creepy story: “J&J recently recalled about 70,000 syringes of Invega Sustenna after discovering cracks in the syringes that could potentially lead to infections or reduced efficacy in users.”
Yeah, sure, they “scrapped” the study, but that they were even thinking about it sends shivers up our spine and we recall countless horror movies, not to speak of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” The clip here shows a different kind of antipsychotic therapy.
